It is included in the Columbus, Georgia-Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area Columbus, Georgia metropolitan area, but a section is located in Lee County, and is, therefore, in the Auburn, Alabama metropolitan area in Alabama.

The Phenix City RiverWalk is a structure on the western bank of the Chattahoochee River. The RiverWalk begins at a beautiful open amphitheater that seats 3,000 and overlooks the Chattahoochee River. As you travel the course of the RiverWalk you will encounter a number of different surroundings. From the Phenix City Amphitheater north, a good portion of the River walk is shaded with tree cover and offers a great location for viewing wildlife and fishing. However, as you continue north there are also sections of the RiverWalk that are open and provide plenty of southern sunshine to the daily bike riders, fitness enthusiasts, peaceful strolls and a spectacular view of the Chattahoochee Whitewater Course. The RiverWalk is designed using a mix of material ranging from cement and brick to boardwalk style decking along with multiple iron bridges. Parts of the RiverWalk were designed to include early 20th Century existing dam structures that place the traveler at a much higher elevation above the river. Maintenance and up-keep for the RiverWalk is a regular duty that is undertaken by the Phenix City Parks and Recreation Department. Trash disposal, benches, lighting, and water fountains are strategically placed along the path to offer the traveler all that they need at any time of day or night.
